The Toronto International Film Festival opened its doors yesterday, with the much-anticipated Passchendaele, Canada’s attempt to make a big-budget historic war film with itself as the heroes. An interesting idea, and doubly so considering WWII and Vietnam constantly hog the cinematic spotlight. Time to let the first World War shine, baby.

Cinema Verdict will be flooding over shortly with all manner of reviews, photographs and news updates from the streets of Toronto as we bounce from cinema to cinema, noodle shop to noodle shop, and try and see if we can’t shake hands with someone more famous than us. Most people on the street qualify for that, so it shouldn’t be terribly difficult. Stay tuned!
