I have just seen the film and, on a 10-point scale, can hardly come up to 5, to be frank. I kept my expectations realistic I felt, but the pacing was sluggish, the Talbot's were altered such that it hardly constitutes a "remake". I could be ok with that, just that the motivations of the updated characters were empty in my belief. And I am a huge fan of the horror genre, particularly the old school Universal. Did I expect it to be a recycling of the 1941 classic? No, and desired that it not be. But, apart from the magnificent transformations courtesy of the brillant make-up artist Rick Baker, the storyline was weak and lacked pacing. Again, without high expectations I felt it could have been done--5 stars, but I did enjoy it nonetheless.

A nice review Daniel, which more or less reflects my own opinions about the film.

I have read several reviews of the film and what with its convoluted production history, it seems to me that far too many critics have ended-up reviewing the film that was playing in their heads rather than the film that was playing on the screen. Always a dangerous thing to do.

One critic even complained about the lack of depth. In a werewolf movie? Give me a break!

Great review! I saw this earlier today and while I didn't care for it as much as you, I certainly wasn't bored. The transformations looked fabulous, but the jump scares grew old quickly. It's always nice to see Hopkins playing Hopkins. :)
