Detief -

The ridiculous flaws?

I don't think the media was told of the live web cam on the scene. I'm not sure how it got on the internet & was piped into the Metro center , but I don't think they made it public that the live web cam was there.

The group in the Metro center did question how Ryder knew so much about Garber. They even asked Garber --- is this true? Garber even asked "How does he know this about me?"

Detlef... first of all, did the news media actually know about the live web cam? I can't recall for sure, but I don't think they did.

Also, Ryder's information on Garber was easily found via a Google search.

I am still surprised that nobody mention the ridiculous flaws in the plot. Ryder is always checking the news online, but the news never mention the live web cam on the scene. And nobody is questioning, why Ryder knows all that details on Garber. I thought the revision of the original plot was weak.

I liked this film better than I thought I would. I thought 'Domino' was complete junk and Tony Scott has never done it for me. However, Tony did tone down the break-neck cuts and the movie was better for it.
I too think that Travolta's ultimate plan was nonsensical and this led to a somewhat weak ending. But the performances were good...a B- in my book. Not bad at all.

Okay, just got home from the theater after watching it. The purist bug in me is itching to claw its way into Scott's revamp, and indeed it was nowhere near as good as its predecessor. Did the film entertain on its own terms, though? Amazingly, yes. The weird thing is I hated the first 30 minutes, which has plenty of Scott's visual flourishes. But you're right in that he does calm down after awhile. And while I was initially impatient with the battle of words between Travolta & Washington, it actually got more compelling as it went along. I agree the religious elements in terms of character parallels was a nice touch. For the most part, I accepted Helgeland's post-9/11 update. And the performances---especially Gandolfini's---were incredibly good.

I still had problems with a lot of things, like the boy-girl relationship (was the flashing really necessary?), what happened to each of Travolta's accomplices, the Google-Earth type images of N.Y.C., etc. And, I was surprised Helgeland nonsensically resorted to a half-carton of milk in place of "Gesundheit." Nevertheless, I still overall enjoyed it, and would have given it a solid 7/10. Chris :)

Hey, I'm surprised I liked it as much as I did, too. If you despised Domino (a film I sort of enjoyed), you may not dig this one, but I will say that it seems a bit less flamboyant visually than some of his recent efforts. A bit. By the way, really enjoyed reading your ten personal favorites over the weekend! :)

Wow! I'm surprised that you enjoyed as much as you did...perhaps I will give it a chance now. I'm with you completely about CRIMSON TIDE, which I fell is Tony Scott's best film...I, for, one can't stand his overvisual stylisitics...I thought DOMINO was the worst film of 2005, hands down! Chris :)
