It's simply a wonderful in-joke for anybody who remembers and loves Karloff's 1932 portrayal of an ancient mummy come back to life in The Mummy! I laughed out loud and clapped when I heard it, because I knew exactly what and why he was doing--and the fact that Azaria strongly resembles Karloff was the perfect finishing touch!
