I agree with your assessment (except for the grade- I'd have failed it.) There are so many nonsensical plot points and confusing moments. Did anyone edit this script? Was there even a script or did they make it up as they went along? Someone outside an FBI agent's home and she grabs a hand rake instead of her gun?! A Catholic hospital has stem cells laying around?! What did a living dog's head have to do with stem cell research!? And of course someone who was molested as a child grows up to be gay and psycho. I'm glad that it wasn't all about a conspiracy, but would have loved a more paranormal tale. Overall it was a disappointing waste. Blah!

Stailey's review is right on the money. It isn't that the movie is awful (I've seen worse) that hurts most. Its the wasted opportunity to rekindle the creative/financial prospects of the "X-Files" franchise (box office returns pretty much guarantee its all but dead) that hurt the most. Six years after he mishandled the series to the point of cancelation Chris Carter continues to sucker 20th Century Fox into giving him millions of dollars to create what amounts to a weak two-parter episode that's barely above the level of a Season 8 or 9 episode. The post-credits coda with Mulder and Scully almost feels like Carter admitting to himself he and Spotnitz came up with a loser of a movie, so it was better to give fans (the few willing to pay $10 to see these characters again) and the actors something approaching a send off. Shame, because despite the movie being no good the chemistry between Anderson and Duchovny is the real deal.

Never seen an episode of the show, though I did see the 1998 movie and I liked it a lot. I saw this follow-up last weekend and was disappointed. There just wasn't much to the damn thing, and I almost felt cheated paying $10. Still, it was the characters that kept my attention not the story (which wasn't much). That being said, I'm surprised you gave the movie as high a rating as you did, despite the fact I agreed with everything you say. Nice job! Chris :)
